# Migrate subscriptions

> Move subscriptions from another app or system into Supercycle without interrupting billing

Migrating brings your existing subscriptions into Supercycle so billing and customer data live in one place. Each migrated subscription is created as a subscription cycle order with a `0` checkout price and the customer's existing billing date, so the customer isn't charged again for the current period.

## Migrate your subscriptions

**1. Check payment methods**

Make sure every customer has a saved card in Shopify, so Supercycle can charge them without asking for payment again.

**2. Edit the confirmation email (optional)**

Starting a migrated subscription sends Shopify's order confirmation email. Add a condition on the `migration` order tag to the template under **[Notifications](https://admin.shopify.com/settings/notifications)** so migrated customers see an update message instead.

```liquid Subject theme={null}
{% if order.tags contains 'migration' %}
  This order is marked for migration.
{% else %}
  Order confirmation
{% endif %}
```

```liquid Body theme={null}
{% if order.tags contains 'migration' %}
  We're updating your subscription. No action needed.
{% else %}
  Standard order confirmation content here.
{% endif %}
```

**3. Create matching pricing groups**

On each product's Subscription method, add a [pricing group](/documentation/methods/subscription/product-setup#create-pricing-groups) with a **Checkout price** of `0` and the billing interval the customer is already on.

**4. Create the subscription order**

For each customer, [create a cycle order](/documentation/manage/cycles/cycle-actions#create-cycles) from **[Cycles](https://admin.shopify.com/apps/supercycle/cycles)** with the **Subscription** method and the right product. Set the start date to the customer's recurring billing date, the date they're normally charged.

**5. Tag and charge the order**

Once the draft order has the customer on it, add the `migration` tag to the order and charge the customer's saved card.

**6. Cancel the old subscription**

Cancel the subscription in your previous app so the customer isn't charged twice.

>
> Migrate one subscription first and check its billing date, charges, and emails before migrating the rest.
